Dating in Baguio: A Guide for Foreign Visitors and Expats

Updated October 2026 · A guide from the Filipina Singles team

Baguio is the "Summer Capital of the Philippines," a mountain city in Benguet province about 1,500 meters above sea level. Its cool climate is a big part of the appeal, and for people used to the heat it feels like a different country. It's also a university city, so it has a young, creative feel, with plenty of cafes, markets and art.

Getting there

Baguio is usually reached by road. From Manila the trip typically takes around five to six hours or more depending on traffic, by bus or private car. Allow extra time on weekends and holidays, when the roads are busy.

Where to stay

  • Around Session Road and Burnham Park: the center of town, with cafes, restaurants and shops within walking distance.
  • Camp John Hay: a quieter, pine-covered area with hotels and trails.

Many hotels have visitor policies, so check before you plan to have anyone visit your room.

Getting around

The center is compact but very hilly. Taxis and jeepneys are the main options, and traffic can be heavy, especially at weekends. Comfortable shoes are a good idea.

Easy date ideas

  • Session Road for coffee, dinner and people-watching.
  • Burnham Park, where you can take a boat out on the small lake or rent a bike.
  • Mines View Park and other lookouts for the mountain views.
  • The BenCab Museum, a well-regarded art museum just outside the city, and Tam-awan Village, an art village inspired by Cordillera culture.
  • The Baguio City Market, for strawberries, ube jam and local produce.
  • Camp John Hay for a walk among the pine trees.

Language and culture

Baguio is a mix of people from across northern Luzon, including Ilocano and Cordillera communities such as the Ibaloi and Kankanaey, so you'll hear several languages. Filipino and English are widely understood. The Panagbenga Flower Festival each February is the city's biggest event, and it gets very crowded.

When to visit

Baguio is cool all year, so bring a jacket, even in the dry season. The drier months, roughly November to April, are the most comfortable. The rainy season, from about June to October, can bring heavy rain and landslides that disrupt the mountain roads, so check conditions before you travel.

Staying safe

  • Watch your phone and bag in the crowded market and on busy streets.
  • Check road conditions before traveling in the rainy season, and avoid mountain roads after heavy rain.
  • Use licensed taxis and agree on fares in advance.
  • Be wary of anyone who offers to "arrange" things for you for a fee.
  • Meet in a public place the first time, and tell someone where you're going.
  • Never send money before you've met someone in person, whatever the reason. Read our guide on spotting dating scams.
