Meeting in person is the moment an online connection becomes real. It's also the moment where a little planning pays off, for your safety, your comfort, and your peace of mind.
Entry rules for the Philippines depend on your passport and they change from time to time. Many nationalities can enter visa-free for an initial stay, but you'll need a passport that's valid for long enough, usually proof of onward travel, and possibly an online arrival registration. Check the Bureau of Immigration and your own government's travel advice shortly before you go, rather than relying on any blog, including this one.
Cebu City, Metro Manila and Davao are major hubs with plenty of flights, hotels, restaurants and public places to meet. If she lives somewhere smaller, it's often easiest to meet in a nearby city first. The dry season, roughly December to May, is the most comfortable time to visit. June to November is typhoon season, so build in flexibility and consider travel insurance.
An invitation to meet her family is a big, positive step. Dress neatly, bring a small gift (food or something for the children is appreciated), greet older relatives respectfully, and accept food graciously. You may see the mano gesture, a sign of respect to elders. Follow her lead. Don't worry about getting everything perfect; sincerity matters more than etiquette.
Chemistry online doesn't always carry over in person, and that's okay. Plan a trip that's worthwhile either way: see the place, eat well, and be kind to everyone you meet. If there is a spark, you'll know it, and you'll have built it on something real.
